CIOMR’s First “Martelet Cup” Awarded

CIOMR’s First “Martelet Cup” Award Presented

At the Interallied Confederation of Medical Officers (CIOMR) Summer Congress held this year in Quebec, Canada, Major General Jean-Robert Bernier, the current Chairman of the Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO (COMEDS) awarded the first Martelet Cup to a young medical reserve officer.

The Martelet Cup is a new yearly award that was established by CIOMR’s Board in the name of Colonel (R) Francois R. Martelet, France, CIOMR Secretary General 2011-2019 for his long service and dedication to CIOMR. It was established to reward the best scientific paper presented at CIOMR by a junior medical reserve officer (OF-3 and below).

The judging panel this year consisted of Major General Bernier, Brigadier General Downes, Surgeon General of Canada, and Lieutenant Colonel Davies, prospective Chairman of the CIOMR Scientific Committee.

The recipient of this year’s Martelet Cup is Major Dr. Damian MacDonald, MD, from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine for his presentation entitled “Reserve Emergency, (ROTEM) and REBOA at the Canadian Role 2 in Iraq.”

CIOMR was established in 1948. It is the official organization of medical reserve officers in NATO Member and Partner Nations.
