Dear CIOMR,
We have just witnessed the funeral arrangement of our past Honorary President Colonel Walter Henny, after the tragic accident at the Summer Congress in Helsinki. Some from CIOMR were there physically, and some of us followed the live streaming. A very moving and worthy ceremony. The coffin was presented in military fashion. The family, friends and colleagues gave their farewell with Walter. CIOMR was mentioned by the family as a very important part of Walters life and a very well written last greeting from VP-South Africa Colonel Gareth Hide, emphasizing Walters positivity, inclusiveness and importance in involving colleagues and supporting development, was read out by Walters son.
The Ceremony’s last address was made by our just past Secretary General Wing Commander Graham Banks. Graham has been very involved and done an extraordinary job on our behalf through the whole process, being in continuous contact with family, Finnish and Dutch military and kept us updated.
On behalf of CIOMR, Wing Commander Banks went through Walters professionalism, compassion, values, uniqueness and importance for us all, and the impact he has had. He gave a great tribute to a great man.
We have just said goodbye to our great friend, our Honorary President and a great man. The world has become less without him in it. He will be deeply missed.
I will thank everyone involved for their support in the different aspect of this tragic accident from the site of injury, through the handling in Finland, support in Netherland and attendance at the funeral. We will try to recover and of course bring CIOMR forward as Walter would have wanted, included learning from this tragic accident.
Rest in Peace Walter!
Johan Storm Munch, NOR
LtCol/President CIOMR
