It is said that animal life evolved in the oceans. When our earliest ancestors crawled onto land the bodily changes,
necessary to survive, were overwhelming.
Humans still have rudiments of gills, but if they want to go “under water” for longer than a couple of minutes they now need
extensive equipment and other support. “Under water” is a hostile environment and in order to help divers survive a
special field of medicine has evolved.
The Workshop “Medicine in the Under Water Battle Space” will address many aspects of that field.
One of CIOMR’s objectives is “to promote standardisation and interoperability”. That is only possible if the required cognitive
and psychomotor skills are maintained.CIOMR CEC is fortunate it can offer an opportunity to develop and exercise skills that are very specialised, but which all military medical personnel should be conversant with.
