May 8th was Norwegian Independence Day from WWII and also the Norwegian Veteran Day. There were events all over Norway to commemorate this.
CIOMRs President LtCol Johan Storm Munch participated in three events that day: first with a wreath-laying ceremony for the fallen Norwegian in Central Lillehammer; then a new wreath-laying ceremony at the British Memorial Graveyard in Northern Lillehammer; and then at the Memorial for the fallen Prisoners of War – consisting of fallen soldiers from Ukraine, Russia, Serbia, Kazakhstan and other former Soviet Republics.
That ceremony was visited by the Kazak Ambassador and his Staff this year also.
This was a day for remembrance, but also a reminder of the disturbing conflicts that are getting closer.
